Abstract

This paper aims to discuss how the Dandara Project: Anti-Racist Theatrical Narratives, an outreach project from the Faculty of Education at the Federal University of Ceará, impacts the racial literacy of students and graduates of the Pedagogy course who participate in the project. Based on Theatre-Education combined with Education for Ethnic-Racial Relations (ERER), the project develops training activities and theatrical performances rooted in Afro-Brazilian culture and aesthetics. This article adopts a qualitative, participatory methodology and analyzes three main categories. The theoretical framework is grounded in the works of bell hooks (2013), Ribeiro (2019), Cavallheiro (2024), Simas & Rufino (2019), among others. The Dandara Project seeks to expand the repertoire of Pedagogy students and children regarding Black children's literature, particularly from the perspective of racial literacy – an entry point for promoting dialogue and reflection aimed at building a more just, democratic, and inclusive society.
