This article analyzes the implications of the reference matrix of the Permanent System for the Evaluation of Basic Education in Ceará (SPAECE) for the school curriculum, using Historical-Critical Pedagogy as a theoretical and methodological framework. Linked to historical-dialectical materialism, the research is characterized as qualitative and documentary, with normative and guiding documents produced by the Ceará Department of Education and CAEd/UFJF as its analytical corpus. The study is mainly based on the contributions of Saviani, Duarte, Malanchen, Freitas, and Laval, articulating curriculum, large-scale assessment, and human development. The results show that SPAECE goes beyond its diagnostic function and consolidates itself as a mechanism for curricular and pedagogical regulation, guiding school work through goals, descriptors, and performance indicators. It is concluded that this dynamic reinforces curricular standardization processes aligned with neoliberal rationality, straining the social function of public schools and restricting the possibilities for comprehensive human development and critical appropriation of systematized knowledge.
