LIMA BARRETO IN THE SCHOOL: CONTRIBUTIONS OF LITERATURE TO EMANCIPATORY ACTIVITIES
Keywords:

In the dawn of Republican Brazil, the writer Lima Barreto undertook countless literary productions, transitioning between diverse genres and expressing the concrete reality of his time. By embedding in his writings so many problematic issues of a society that intended to be modern and civilized, yet intensified the marks of inequality, the author established himself as a sad visionary, as his critiques remain highly relevant for reflecting on our present society. In this context, the objective of the present study is to align Lima Barreto's writings within the scope of emancipatory educational activities, viewed through the lens of historical and dialectical materialism, as possibilities for their introduction into the school routine. We propose Lima Barreto's literature as content for emancipatory educational activities in formal schooling, drawing on the theoretical frameworks of Marx (2010), Lukács (2013; 2023), and Tonet (2012; 2022; 2024). We thus understand that activities of an emancipatory nature can articulate with the horizon of human emancipation.
